A female clinician in Alaska began experiencing probable anaphylactic symptoms after 10 minutes of having taken the vaccine on Thursday.

The first serious reaction to the virus came out at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau on Tuesday. The female healthcare worker was hospitalized after suffering anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction.

This was followed by another worker though he only experienced a minor reaction and did not require hospitalization. It is interesting to note that both these cases were from Alaska.

In the current case, a worker identified only as a female clinician started experiencing probable anaphylactic symptoms 10 minutes into receiving the shot on Thursday in Fairbanks. She was struck with symptoms of a hoarse voice, tongue swelling and difficulty breathing.

She was immediately administered two doses of epinephrine at the emergency department at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and was discharged six hours later.

“Allergic reactions, though uncommon, can occur with injections of medications and vaccines,” Chief Medical Officer Dr Angelique Ramirez said in a statement.

“This is why our staff is trained and prepared to respond to any symptoms of anaphylaxis. Our employee is doing well and was able to go home yesterday.”

Foundation Health Partners, the Parent company of the hospital informed on the woman’s behalf that she wanted to maintain her privacy but still issued a statement from the woman. In the statement she said that she encourages everyone to actively get the vaccine. She said that her reaction to the vaccine is nothing compared to the adverse suffering of people infected with the COVID-19 virus.
