Get to know all about the today’s Google Doodle of PK Rosy
Google Doodle is celebrating the 120th birth anniversary of the first female lead actress PK Rosy in Malayalam by honoring her with a dedicated doodle. She was born on 10th Feb 1903 in Thycaud, Trivandrum. Rosy was born and brought up during an era when women were discouraged from acting and dancing but she broke all the barriers by playing a role in a film named “Vigathakumaran”.
Her problems were not limited to discouragement only because once the upper caste people burnt down her home and she had to escape from there. As per IMDb, the crowd was angry that a Dalit woman had portrayed an upper-caste woman in the movie directed by JC Daniel. A report says that she married a truck driver named Kesava Pillai and moved to Tamil Nadu where she lived her life with the name Rajammal. Her name came to light after a long time when in 2019 Women in Cinema Collective launched a film society by her name.
This act of naming the film society Rosy Film Society was to take note of all those who were excluded from dominant cinema. She has been mentioned earlier even by scholars and historians activists to raise voices for women.
