Google has recently announced a policy change regarding inactive personal accounts. Beginning in December 2023, Google reserves the right to delete personal accounts and their associated content if they have not been used or logged into for a period of 2 years. This policy primarily applies to individual Google accounts and does not impact organizational accounts like those of schools or businesses.
To ensure users have ample opportunity to retain their accounts, Google will send multiple notifications to the primary and backup email addresses linked to the account in the months leading up to the deletion. These notifications will serve as reminders to log in and maintain account activity.
To prevent your Google account from being deleted, it is advised to log in at least once every 2 years. Alternatively, setting up a subscription through your Google Account will also count as an activity, thereby keeping your account active and exempt from deletion. This policy alteration affects various Google services, including Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar, YouTube, and Google Photos.
