BioWare to hand over development of Star Wars: The Old Republic to Broadsword, Gary McKay and Keith Kanneg forwards their statement to the game’s community

In recent developments, Bioware, the developer of Star Wars: The Old Republic has decided to transfer the development of the game to Broadsword. EA will still be the game’s publisher. With this, the SWTOR team and Broadsword studio will work together for the future development of the game.

Star Wars: The Old Republic was launched 12 years back and remains to date one of the most successful live service Star Wars games.

Gary McKay, general manager of BioWare reported that the founder and president of Broadsword has formerly been involved with the SWTOR’s team during his time in EA.

Gary further reported that the new change will bring in new enhanced features, and improvements, while also retaining the previous features and plans. Players will still enjoy the SWTOR they know and love.

Gary stated that Broadsword will give the game room to grow and flourish, with the continued commitment and full support of Lucasfilm Games, and the continued partnership with EA.

Keith Kanneg, the executive producer of SWTOR expressed that Broadsword is the right studio to continue enhancing and modernizing the game. This would also expand the number of players engaged so far with the game.

Keith Kanneg will move along with the core team leaders and continue to work with most of the current team.

This new step would demand the necessity of most of the current team to accompany the game on its move to Broadsword, for which BioWare will request them. However, every role will not be moved and BioWare is doing everything it can to support the affected members, who have an opportunity to find new roles within EA.
