Instagram, Twitter and TikTok team up to take down accounts who steal rare usernames
On Thursday, after a month’s long investigation; Accounts which were operating under “O.G. user names” were successfully banned through hacking.
Instagram confirmed that they have banned hundreds of accounts that were linked to online username mining operations; Along with Instagram, Twitter and TikTok also banned various accounts on their platforms
A Facebook spokesperson stated, “Today, we’re removing hundreds of accounts connected to members of the user’s forum. They harass, extort and cause harm to the Instagram community, and we will continue to do all we can to make it difficult for them to profit from Instagram usernames,”
TikTok stated, “As part of our ongoing work to find and stop inauthentic behaviour, we recently reclaimed a number of TikTok usernames that were being used for account squatting,” “We will continue to focus on staying ahead of the ever-evolving tactics of bad actors, including cooperating with third parties and others in the industry.”
