Make in India: Production of LRSAM Missiles Flagged off
The Ministry of Defence released a statement with regards to the efforts of Make In India in Defence sector as the final production batch of Long Range Surface to Air Missiles (LRSAM) which were designed and developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and integrated by BDL (Bharat Dynamics Limited). They were flagged off on 14 February, Sunday at APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex in Hyderabad.
Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, DDR&D and Chairman DRDO and Rear Admiral V Rajasekhar, VSM Director, Defence Machine Design Establishment ( DMDE) were present on the occasion.
DRDO and IAI Israel have come together to jointly develop the LRSAM to equip the latest ships of Indian Navy. The recently fully developed LRSAM Missile system is all equipped and developed by dual-pulse rocket motor as well as a dual control system that will impart the required manoeuvrability at the terminal phase. It also provides a point and area defence against various aerial targets including fighter aircraft, subsonic & supersonic cruise missiles. This unique state of art weapon system is designed with the help of an active Radio Frequency (RF) seeker which will track, identify, engage and destroy the target with high kill probability.
The LRSAM weapon system has been productized and delivered to the Indian Navy. Additionally, the system’s overall performance has been successfully demonstrated via user flight trials from Indian Naval ships. This weapon system has been successfully productized and has been delivered to the Indian Navy.
