Price Increase for DRAM Products

The first update pointing to the expected increase of price(that has now been confirmed) came early this month which pointed to Samsung’s aim of achieving profitability in its DRAM division and also to achieve a break-even point(cost equals revenue situation) in its NAND division. To make this aim possible, the brand was said to have taken the decision to double the price for new contracts.

Following the update, again it was reported that a price increase would happen and that Samsung has reduced semiconductor production, and as is known, shortage causes demand which leads to price hikes. It was also mentioned in the report that the next flagship smartphones from China may also be priced higher than before.

Now, TrendForce, a reputed organization based in Taiwan that conducts and offers insightful market analysis and research, has shared the details regarding the increase in the price of DRAM products from different categories that would possibly come into effect in the fourth quarter of this year with respect to the previous quarter(Q323).

Price Projections for Different Categories of DRAM Products, 3Q23~4Q23

As you may have noticed and as mentioned above, there is a significant increase in mobile DRAM prices. LPDDR4X price has increased to 3~8%, as well as the price for LPDDR5(X) RAM to 5~10%. The price hike is evident in all the categories, except for Server DRAMs. The price of DDR4 remains mostly flat and the price of DDR5 has gone down by 0~5% in the Server DRAM category. But do note, the Blended ASP is mentioned to have gone up to 3~8%.

This increase in price for DRAMs is sure to be reflected in the price points of upcoming smartphones and also for the other consumer electronics devices that are to use them.
