Google Passkeys Now Supported on eBay, Uber & WhatsApp

With increasing cyber security issues and the rising phishing attacks, neither did two-step verification nor two-factor verification proved useful in preventing them. Passwords weren’t a reliable means of protecting users’ accounts or data, and it has always been subjected to breach.

Going through reports, it is said that over 60% of data breaches took place in 2021, involving stealing credentials or phishing. Data breaches have also cost organizations a huge loss of an average of 4.91 million dollars in 2022. Phishing attacks have also gone up to 61% in 2022, reaching a point of 255 million attacks within a period of six months.

This had confirmed that the previous security methods weren’t enough to protect from these threats and coming up with a better solution became really important. It was with this mind that Google introduced passkeys as a safer sign-in method, safer and less prone to attacks when compared to passwords and other two-step or two-factor sign-in methods.

Speaking about Google’s Passkeys, it is made by partnering with Fido Alliance and using fingerprint, face scan, or screen lock as sign-in options. This makes it 4x times more simpler and faster to use. It is also considered as the strongest protection against threats and is unique to each user. Third-party applications and even Google will not have any knowledge of what the passkey is.

Passkeys can be used to sign in to various Google services and other third-party applications or services and now, the support has been extended to more applications like eBay, Uber, and WhatsApp on Android and Chrome.

Try out the passkeys yourself and experience a much more safer, easier and simpler sign-in procedure.
