Xiaomi 14 Ultra rumour: Xiaomi could be testing dual periscope cameras

Xiaomi has just launched the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro smartphones in the Chinese market. Rumours are rife that the more powerful Xiaomi 14 Ultra will be unveiled in the first quarter of 2024. In the coming weeks, the rumour mill will start leaking details about the Ultra variant. In fact, a Chinese leaker has revealed new information about its optical zoom capabilities.

According to the leaker, Xiaomi has tested not one but two periscope telephoto cameras on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. The inclusion of the dual periscope cameras will allow it to offer extended shooting capabilities and improved picture quality. However, this approach tends to consume more power, which is a common problem for smartphone manufacturers, including Xiaomi. Since it seems to consume a lot of power, it appears that the final version of the 14 Ultra may not feature dual periscope cameras.

According to other reports, the Sony LYT900 1-inch primary camera will be the star of the 14 Ultra’s Leica-engineered quad camera setup. It is said to be an enhanced version of the 1-inch IMX989 primary camera that’s available on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, 12S Ultra, and 13 Pro.

Housed inside a round camera module, the main snapper is likely to be accompanied by an ultra-wide camera, a 3x zoom camera with telephoto macro support, and a 5x zoom camera. In terms of the display, it is expected to feature a curved-edge AMOLED panel that supports a 2K resolution.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is said to have the 24030PN60C model number for the Chinese variant, while the global version has the 24030PN60G model number. The device is expected to support 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
