Vivo X Fold 3 Pro to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor

Vivo is working on its next-generation foldable phone, the Vivo X Fold 3. Reports surrounding it have claimed that the brand plans to launch two variants, dubbed the Vivo X Fold 3 and the X Fold 3 Pro. Tipster Digital Chat Station has a key detail about the X Fold 3 series.

According to a Weibo post from DCS, the upcoming Vivo X Fold 3 foldable smartphone will feature an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, potentially integrated into both the cover and inner displays. This isn’t a novelty for Vivo, as the company has been incorporating ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensors since the inception of the first-generation Vivo X Fold.

Currently, there is no clear information on the distinctions between the X Fold 3 and its Pro variant. It is uncertain whether there will be differences in features or if the Pro version will boast a higher configuration, such as 24 GB RAM + 1 TB storage, while the standard variant may be offered in a lower configuration of up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage. These details are yet to be revealed.

However, the tipster claimed that the standard X Fold 3 would be priced affordably. In a previous release, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered Vivo X Fold 2 was launched for 8,999 CNY (~$1,270) in April of this year. While the X Fold 3 Pro is expected to have comparable pricing, indications point towards the X Fold 3 being offered at a more budget-friendly rate. As per reports, the X Fold 3 series, the Vivo X Pro+ (or Ultra), and the X Flip 2 will break cover in March or April 2024.

The same source mentioned that the two upcoming Xiaomi foldable phones, tentatively named the Xiaomi MIX Flip and MIX Fold 4, will feature a side-facing fingerprint sensor. These devices are rumoured to debut in the first half and second half of 2024, respectively.
