Google is Speeding up Chrome’s Update Releases to Every Four Weeks
Google informs that it will speed up Chrome’s upcoming releases; Starting with Chrome 94 in Q3, 2021. Reportedly, Google will be releasing milestones of its browser every four weeks, instead of every six weeks as it previously used to. A new, faster, better version of Chrome will be available to its users every month.
A technical Program Manager at Chrome, Alex Mineer explains, “As we have improved our testing and release processes for Chrome, and deployed bi-weekly security updates to improve our patch gap, it became clear that we could shorten our release cycle and deliver new features more quickly,”
However, IT administrators have an option to opt for a new Extended Stable option that includes milestone releases every eight weeks. Other Extended Stable will be made available for enterprise administrators and Chromium embedders who will need the extra time to manage updates in their environments. Important security updates will still arrive every two weeks in this version.
Additionally, Google states that it has been planning to release “multiple stable options” for Chrome OS. Details for the same will be shared within the coming months.
