Beware: Fake Indian Postal Service Message Asking to Update Address

Scammers definitely find new ways to deceive people. We’ve been covering this issue for a long time, but today, one of our colleagues received a message from the Indian postal service that was clearly a scam. The way it was sent and its content looked suspicious from the beginning.

If you look at the screen grab above, you’ll notice the sender’s email address is “[email protected],” and it was received as an iMessage on an iPhone. Normally, official messages come as SMS, and the sender’s ID would not be a phone number but rather something like “ID-XXXX.” Additionally, the message content asked to click on a link to update the address, claiming the first attempt to deliver the package was unsuccessful.

The message read: “India Post: Your package has arrived at the warehouse, and we attempted delivery twice but were unable to due to incomplete address information. Please update your address details within 48 hours, otherwise, your package will be returned. Please update the address in the link: https://indiapostxw.vip/IN. After the update is completed, we will re-deliver within 24 hours, India Post!”

Thankfully, my colleague didn’t click on the link, and we advise you to never click on links from unknown sources. Although the Government of India has already issued a notice stating that this is a fake message, but it is still reaching Indian users.

It’s best to spread this message to your loved ones or friends to save them from this scam. If someone needs to report an incident related to this scam, they can do so by calling the authorities’ helpline number 1930 or by using the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
