New Shielded Email Feature Spotted For Gmail; Could Be Used To Offer Temporary Email Addresses

For all those who use Gmail or an email app, spam messages are the biggest problem. Obviously, there are a lot of apps or newsletters that ask for a user’s email and the minute you provide that your email account is filled with spam messages. To overcome this issue many temporary email apps were introduced but they arrived with their own issues.

Google also tried to introduce many spam protection features for Gmail but still sharing primary email addresses is not devoid of risks. Seems like the company might soon come up with a permanent solution as a new Shielded Email feature was spotted by Android Authority in the Autofill settings menu.

This feature was also found while performing a teardown of Google Play services version 24.45.33 APK. It is said that the Shielded Email feature will allow users to keep their email address private by generating an email alias where an application asks a user to provide their email address. This feature is said to consist of a system to create single-use or limited-use email aliases that will forward messages along to your primary account.

The shielded Email feature seems to be similar to Apple’s Hide My Email feature. Other details regarding the availability of this feature and how this feature will be implemented are still a mystery but we may get to come across these details soon.
