Telangana Announces 100% Exemption From Road Tax And Registration Fees For EVs To Make Hyderabad Pollution Free
To make Hyderabad pollution-free and promote electric vehicles in the city, yesterday Telangana government announced a 100% exemption from road tax and registration fees for various categories of EVs purchased and registered in the state for the initial period of two years up to December 31, 2026.
This new EV policy will come into action starting today. The exempted EVs include- electric two-wheelers, four-wheeler commercial passenger vehicles, private electric four-wheelers, and electric three-seater auto rickshaws in both Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and non-GHMC areas, electric light goods carriers (including three-wheeled goods vehicles in GHMC and non- GHMC areas, electric tractors, and electric buses).
For electric buses, the exemption will apply for the entire life of the electric vehicles operated by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation only and the buses owned by any industry to transport their employees exclusively and that are not used for commercial purposes, purchased and registered in Telangana for an initial period of two years up to December 31, 2026, irrespective of the number of vehicles registered.
This major step by the government is sure to motivate people in the city to buy EV vehicles hence creating less pollution.
