Sony Officially Unveils Its Latest Alpha 1 II Camera; Will Be Available For Purchase In December
Yesterday Sony officially unveiled its all-new full-frame camera- Alpha 1 II which is claimed as Sony’s strongest and most reliable hybrid camera ever created. The camera arrives with a dedicated AI processing unit and enhanced ergonomics.
Sony Alpha 1 II: Features
The camera features a high-resolution frame Exmor RS stacked CMOS sensor with an approximate 50.1MP resolution. This resolution performance is further enhanced by the BIONZ XR image processing engine. There is also a separate AI processing unit that enables real-time recognition AF. It offers blackout-free high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking at up to 30fps that can track complex movements with AF/AE calculations at up to 120 times per second.
The camera also includes a Pre-Capture function that allows images to be captured up to one second before the shutter button is pressed. There is also a Continuous Shooting Speed Boost feature that temporarily increases frame rates in high-action movements. It comes with a new Auto mode that enables automatic subject recognition. Sony has improved OIS of up to 8.5 stops in the center and 7.0 stops in the periphery. The camera can shoot up to 8K 30p with 10-bit 4:2:2 color depth as well as high frame recording capabilities of 120p for 4K.
It sports an evolved 3.2-type LCD monitor with a highly requested 4-axis multi-angle. Design evolutions include- a grip, an enhanced quick-release shutter button, and an additional C5 custom button for added convenience. The camera is compatible with V-C5 vertical rip. It comes with a new BC-ZDI dual battery charger that rapidly charges two Z batteries simultaneously in 155 minutes and a new deep-type padded eyepiece cup. It uses Sony’s Original Blend Material for eco-conscious packaging.
Some other advancements include- updated processing algorithms, high-speed anti-distortion shutter, Dynamic active mode, Breathing compensation, auto framing, and import User LUTs capabilities. Real-time image transfer solution can be done with the support of 2.5GBASE-T via wired LAN. Images and videos can be automatically transferred directly to Adobe Lightroom or Google Drive through the latest version of Sony’s cloud storage service, Creators Cloud.
Sony Alpha 1 II: Availability
This camera will be available in December 2024 for approximately $6,499.99 USD and $8,499.99. It will be sold at a variety of Sony’s authorized dealers throughout North America.
