Samsung Requests ITC to Ban BOE Display Panels in the United States: Wants Re-examination of ITC’s Decision
The South Korean tech maker, Samsung, wants ITC to ban BOE display panels in the US following the infringement of Samsung display patents by the Chinese display manufacturer. While ITC’s preliminary report was in favor of Samsung, the decision of ban wasn’t approved. It has now been reported that Samsung has asked ITC for a re-examination.
Here’s more about it.
“No More BOE Panels in the US” – Requests Samsung
Firstly speaking of certain older updates that should be discussed, Apple’s iPhone SE 4 device is expected to launch early next year and initially the company had tried to make a deal with Samsung in order to get OLED displays for USD 25 per piece for the brand’s upcoming cheaper smartphone model. However, Samsung denied this and this is how BOE came into the picture, becoming the display provider for Apple with its iPhone SE 4 project. But what happened next caused this issue to break out.
BOE infringed on three of Samsung’s display patents and Samsung approached ITC (US International Trade Commission) for banning BOE displays in the United States. [In the meantime, it has also been found out that US importers and wholesalers have also infringed Samsung’s display patents, four in number.] Even though ITC judged that BOE did infringe on Samsung’s patents, a ban wasn’t brought on BOE display panels in the US and the company was allowed to still be the providers of Apple iPhone SE 4 display.
It should be noted that ITC look into a lot of aspects while dealing with such cases and even if the infringement of patents is proved to be true, if the company’s whose patent/patents has been infringed doesn’t have a negative effect in the market or industry, the decision of ban might always be dropped. Here, it is well clear that Samsung has certain agendas as with BOE out of the picture, Apple will only be able to rely on Samsung for its iPhone SE 4 display.
As per new reports, the above mentioned is just a preliminary decision, and a final decision on the same is going to be taken in March 2025 next year, around the same time Apple iPhone SE 4 is said to debut, following Samsung’s request to ITC in re-examining its decision. Now the entire matter is in the hands of ITC and we will have to wait until the end of the first quarter of 2025 to know what will happen to BOE and Apple’s iPhone SE 4 in the US.
