Google Announces 2 Years Extended OS Updates for Pixel 6 Series, Pixel 7 Series, & Pixel Fold; December 2024 Pixel Update and Pixel Drop Now Rolling Out

The California-based tech giant, Google, has now announced several exciting Pixel updates for its users. Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7 series, and Pixel Fold devices users will be offered another two years more extended OS update period as per Google’s latest announcement. Along with this, the Pixel Update and Pixel Drop for eligible devices have started rolling out.

Pixel 6 Series, Pixel 7 Series, & Pixel Fold – 2 Years Extended OS Updates

Google unveiled its Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7 series, and Pixel Fold devices over 2021 to 2023 and all these Pixel devices were initially launched with promised three years of OS updates and five years of security updates, ensuring that the users of the respective devices will be able to use it for a longer period.

The support pages for these devices have now been updated, revealing that Google will be providing an extended two more years of OS updates to Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7 series, and Pixel Fold devices. This means, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, and Pixel Fold smartphone users will be receiving latest OS updates for another two more years, apart from the promised security updates. Thus support for Pixel 6 series is pointed out to end in 2026, whereas for Pixel 7 series, it will end in 2027.

To note: Nothing about the Pixel Tablet has been mentioned and its support page remains unchanged.

Pixel Update – December 2024

The monthly software update for December 2024 has started rolling out for eligible Pixel devices running on Android 15 and it will be rolled out over the next few weeks in phases depending on the models and carrier versions. It includes several bug fixes and improvements.

The changelog are fixes for user interface-related issues like lock-screen wallpaper fading out, instability in dark mode, call notifications delay, layout and animation issues during transition, repeated color selections in Wallpaper & Styles, Wallpaper & Styles app crash, swipe actions improvements, and notification background color problems; general improvements for system stability and performance; and connectivity fixes and improvements like improved Wi-Fi stability and performance, Bluetooth range issue fix, and improvements for network connection stability and performance.

Other than these, the issue with green tint on screen, audio stability and performance issues in certain scenarios, and reboot issues with the connected USB audio device will all be resolved as well. General improvements for camera stability are also part of the update.

Pixel Drop – December 2024

The latest December 2024 Pixel Drop will also be rolling out starting today to selected or eligible Pixel devices and the roll-out will continue over the coming weeks. Some of the notable features teased include live captions for videos, call screen with smart replies, dual screen in Portrait mode, Joy for kids, ultra HDR on Instagram, seamless sharing on Snapshot, Save for Later in Circle to Search, organized Pixel screenshots, Pixel Studio stickers on Gboard, Emoji Kitchen mixes, and more widgets among other features.
