If you’re coming to Mumbai by rail for a short visit or need a cheap somewhere to stay in the financial capital, the pod hotel near Mumbai Central station is a good option.

Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Patil Danve today inaugurated the first-of-its-kind, capsule-sized hotel at Mumbai Central station, a concept that originated in Japan and Singapore.

POD rooms at Mumbai Central Station are here to make your journey comfortable and convenient, whether you’re traveling by train on a short business trip or taking a group of kids on a tour,” the Railway Ministry tweeted Monday, sharing photographs of the luxury pods.

The Railways teamed up with Urbanpod, India’s first and only pod hotel company, to open revenue-share pod hotels.

A senior Western Railway official told news agency PTI that each room, or pod, will cost Rs. 999 for 12 hours and Rs. 1,999 for 24 hours.

WiFi, a TV, a small locker, an adjustable mirror, and reading lighting are all available.

“Passengers can take advantage of all modern amenities at a lower cost in these pod design accommodations. Passengers and the general public can pay Rs 999 for 12 hours and Rs 1,999 for 24 hours to stay in the pod rooms “Western Railway’s general manager, Alok Kansal, stated.

Urbanpod, which was launched by Shalabh Mittal and Hiren Gandhi in 2017, is based on a Singaporean chain of pod hotels. The concept, on the other hand, is based on Japan’s popular capsule hotels, which first appeared in the 1970s.
