‘I sincerely hope that we can see Roger Federer play at least another time”, Novak Djokovic said
The world’s No. 1 tennis player as declared by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), Novak Djokovic Novak Djokovic has unveiled about his hopes from his great rival Roger Federer to return to competition and play at least one more match to contribute to the Swiss importance in tennis. His statements came after Swiss made a confirmation that the 20 Grand Slam men’s singles titles winner Roger Federer will not be able to perform in the Australian Open in January.
The Serbian player believes that Federer deserves a “proper farewell” and end his career on his own terns if he is unable to play in the long run. But the 40-years-old Federer confirmed that he is not likely to return before mid-2022 because of his multiple knee surgeries and would be “incredibly surprised” if he recovered and became able to play at next summer’s Wimbledon Championships.
In a press conference organized after Djokovic made his place in the Semi-finals at the ATP Finals, Djokovic paid tribute to Federer because of his impact and contributions and also showed his confidence in Federer to return to competition with his best efforts.
“Obviously Roger is an icon of our sport and people around the world love him. They love watching him play, love seeing him around. He’s very important for our sport on and off the court. So for the sake of our sport, I sincerely hope that we can see him play at least another time.”
“I’m sure he doesn’t want to end his career this way. I think he’s gonna definitely try to give it a last push, a last try. I’m not sure what his injury is, and I know he’s been struggling with a knee for quite a few years. So yeah, let’s see.”
“I think for everything that he has achieved and created for this sport, he deserves to play and he deserves to have a proper farewell.” He added, “I mean, if his injury is not allowing him to play, so to say, more frequently on the tour.”
