It is a fallacy to believe that the past is no longer relevant. At this time, nothing that has ever happened has gone unnoticed. The present is nothing more than the past rolled up and concentrated in this split second. You are what you are because of what you have been; because of your heredity stretching back into forgotten generations; because of every element of your environment that has influenced you, every man or woman you have met, every book you have read, every experience you have had; all of these are accumulated in your memory, your body, your character, and your soul.In the same way, a city, a country, or a race has a past that cannot be comprehended without it. The current instant, to which we devote so much attention, is continuously flying from our eyes and fingers into that pedestal and matrix of our existence that we call the past.
