Parliament Winter Session 2021: Farm Laws Repeal Bill is finally passed in Lok Sabha

On the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the repealing of the three central Farm Laws and today, the bill to repeal has been passed in the lower house of the Parliament (Lok Sabha) following slogans by the opposition against the government, disrupting proceedings on the first day of the Winter Session.

The bill was tabled by the Union Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar. The Congress’ Member of Parliaments like Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary protested the passing of bill demanding discussions on it. The Speaker Om Birla adjourned the Lok Sabha till 12 noon, then resumed. But again adjourned at 2 noon shortly after the Farm Laws Repeal Bill was passed.

The farmers were protesting from almost a year and now it is a big occasion for them but there are still issues to be taken care of like the legal binding of the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

The bill was expected to be looked into by the upper house of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. During the discussions the Rajya Sabha was too adjourned after the proceedings began.

Other issues included the decision to enacting norms like compelling international passengers to India to give 14 days’ travel history and upload negative Covid test results, as per new guidelines for ‘Omicron’.

Narendra Modi said that the government is ready to discuss and solve all issues in the Parliament. The government had scheduled 36 Bills for the Winter session while the Opposition is planning to debate on the Pegasus spyware, the economy, the women’s reservation bill and other issues.
