Before his discharge, Jim Ross was accused of lying to an ex-WWE Superstar

Buff Bagwell, a former WCW star, feels Jim Ross lied to him before releasing him from his WWE contract.

On the July 2, 2001, episode of RAW, Bagwell’s sole broadcast WWE match ended in defeat against Booker T. The five-time WCW World Tag Team Champion was released a week later by the company’s former Head of Talent Relations.

“When you [Jim Ross] say you like Buff Bagwell and you’re doing your job, and there’s this little DVD called Heatseekers that shows Jim Ross ripping me a-f***ing-part, calling me everything in the book but a friend, and dogging me out, then that changes the whole story of him lying,” he said.

Bagwell questioned why Ross later bashed him on a DVD after being polite to him in person on the Cheap Heat Productions Podcast:

Bagwell’s WCW World Heavyweight Championship match against Booker T in 2013 was dubbed “the most embarrassing match ever” by WWE’s website. Fans booed and chanted “boring” during the WCW-themed match.

Following Buff Bagwell’s WWE exit, allegations surfaced that his mother Judy had requested time off from the company.

He emphasized that the reports regarding his recently deceased mother are untrue. Fans are likely to accept anything Jim Ross says about his WWE exit, according to Bagwell:

“That’s what p****d me off about Jim Ross all those years. There was only three witnesses the day I was told to stay home – the famous mother story I brought up – and that was me, God, and Jim Ross. There’s no witnesses, and the fans are obviously gonna believe Jim Ross over Buff Bagwell,” he said.

Bagwell “simply wasn’t a good fit” for WWE, according to Ross, which is why Vince McMahon wanted him released. The current AEW analyst also believed that the former WCW superstar was more concerned with partying than with wrestling.
