Was Nicola Tesla suffering from Depression? Study shows he was, Check it Out!

The introvert renowned inventor and engineer, Nicola Tesla spent a lot of time understanding his visions and thoughts and bringing it to reality. The man who lit the world, was lacking light in his life? Was the great inspirational inventor suffering from depression? Was he upset even after such great achievements?

One of the biggest visionary who led the invention of rotating magnetic field which became the basis of the most alternating-current machinery, Nicola Tesla was an American inventor and engineer born in 1956.

He accomplished the development of the three-phase system of electric power transmission and also an induction coil used in radio technology, Tesla Coil.

The great genius and the renowned inventor who is an inspiration for many, Was he struggling with his mental health? Does not your problems end with being this successful? Was he mentally ill?

Yes, the brilliant inventor Nicola Tesla was struggling with some sorts of serious mental issues. The pioneer of many of such great technologies which present-scientists are also struggling to develop, was suffering with Obsesssive-Compulsion Disorder (OCD) which makes the people feel the urge to repeat a certain action and thinking a certain thought over and over again. This became the reason for him spending extra time alone which further led to development of another mental complication, anxiety. He did not like to spend much time among people which left him alone with his anxiety and stress.

Along with this, Tesla was also obsessed with cleanliness and avoiding germs to stay disease-free. He was obsessed with washing hands and even hated to shake hands with others and usually wore gloves to avoid any kind of physical contact to avoid germs. In his later years, he even ate only boiled food to kill germs.

Another one of his mental issue was his obsession with number three. He used to perform all tasks three times and used number three always in every job. Every hotel room number that he stayed in was divisible by three and he also used to ask for 18 fresh towels as 18 is divisible by 3. The New York hotel room he was found dead in, had the name Wyndham and numbered 3327, located on 33rd floor.

Moreover, he also used to take a small break after every three hours and before eating, he also used to fold 18 napkins. He always calculated the cubic mass of the food and also the precise number of jaw movements required to digest it.

Tesla has a profound phobia of round objects, he even hated the woman who wore earrings. Moreover, he hated touching other people’s hair or jewelry maybe because of his phobia from germs. He was also considered eccentric for the same.

He spent most of his time in his lab working and is said to sleep only two hours a day which further led to anxiety. He also sometimes used to faint or face fatigue due to lack of sleep.

He even used to experience frequent and strange hallucinations which also resulted in many of his great achievements. His invention of AC motor was based on an idea inspired from a hallucination of flashing light and flames.

People say that he was born in the wrong period due to the advancement of his brain and his ideas of science and technology and said his mind was way ahead. But this isn’t something with which he was born but instead he gathered it with his hardwork and hours of research. But in order to achieve something you have to pay for it, maybe the price of his achievements was way too high. He was suffering from serious mental illness in a period when people didn’t even know what is it. He was alone, have no one to share his difficulties and issues of his life with.

It is so ironical that a person who is known by everyone and also followed by many for inspiration, died alone in poverty and relative obscurity which is maybe the saddest end for one of the most acclaimed inventors of the modern age.
