On Goa Liberation Day, The Mormugao, The Indian Navy’s Second Ship Of Project 15b, Sails For Sea Trials For The First Time

Mormugao, the Indian Navy’s second indigenous stealth destroyer of the P15B class, made her maiden sea sortie today. She is scheduled to be commissioned in mid-2022. The 19th of December is likely the most appropriate date for the ship to set sail, as the nation commemorates the 60th anniversary of Goa’s independence from Portuguese domination. The Indian Navy played a critical role in the liberation of Goa, and dedicating the ship’s name to the maritime state of Goa will not only strengthen the bond between the Indian Navy and the people of Goa, but will also permanently link the ship’s identity to the Navy’s crucial role in nation-building.

Mormugao is a Project 15B destroyer being built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDSL). The ship is a brilliant example of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, as it includes various unique indigenous technology. She has given the ‘Make in India’ project a new lease on life.

The Indian Navy’s combat capabilities will be considerably enhanced by Mormugao. With the recent commissioning of INS Visakhapatnam and the fourth P75 submarine, INS Vela, MDSL’s cutting-edge capabilities and the strong indigenous shipbuilding tradition of a modern and vibrant India, the start of sea trials of Mormugao is a testament to the cutting-edge capabilities of MDSL and the strong indigenous shipbuilding tradition of a modern and vibrant India.
