Top interesting games that will release in 2022
New announcements have been made to add even more excitement to the year ahead since The Game Awards 2021 showcased a host of new titles.
I’ve selected some of the biggest games coming out in 2022 and beyond, but this list isn’t comprehensive. Alternatively, you can always keep an eye on our handy video game release dates roundup, which is regularly updated with the latest release announcements. Therefore, be sure to get your wishlist ready and check out all of the upcoming Xbox Series X games, upcoming Switch games, new PC games, and upcoming PS5 games.
On every platform, here’s what to look forward to in 2022 and beyond.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the first open-world Pokemon game, has undoubtedly sparked a lot of fan excitement. It is a unique adventure to create Sinnoh’s first Pokedex, a long before any other entries in the series. The process of catching Pokemon is as simple as throwing a Pokeball at them while sneaking up on them, which will seamlessly start a battle. We had been waiting for this game for so long.
Rainbow Six Extraction
We are now talking about Rainbow Six Extraction, formerly known as Rainbow Six Quarantine – the name changed for very good reasons, of course. In this sequel to Rainbow Six Siege, you and your squad work together to defeat a parasite-like alien called the Archaeans.
Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 has a good chance of being the only zombie game you’ll need for the foreseeable future, and there’s no calendar without one or two zombie games to look forward to. The original Dying Light was a wonderful start for Techland, and its sequel intends to expand on that success in every possible way. Dying Light 2 is all that you could ask for in one, beautifully apocalyptic package, and then some, with its reactive world, branching narrative, finely-tuned combat, and radically upgraded graphics. Baseball bats made of barbed wire are already prepared for zombie blood.
Sifu
Sloclap, the developer of Absolver, is back with a brand new game called Sifu. The game places you in the shoes of a young Kung-Fu student seeking revenge after the murder of his family. The game features a unique aging mechanic where you can trade off your life if you make a mistake, so that you can try again. However, you will die if you get too old, forcing you to start all over again.
Horizon Forbidden West
As promised, Aloy is back in a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and this time we’ll be heading to San Francisco, America, in a post-apocalyptic setting. Horizon Forbidden West was revealed for the PS5 during Sony’s Future of Gaming event. The trailer featured stunning, vibrant landscapes, brand new big machine creatures, and – perhaps most interestingly of all- underwater sequences. As we return to Guerrilla Games’ unique world when it is released on a next-generation console, there will no doubt be more mysteries to unravel.
