‘Deltacron’ is here to make you sick!!

Scientists have detected a new coronavirus strain that combines characteristics of both the Delta variant and the Omicron variant.

The new COVID-19 strain that was once detected in Cyprus has been dubbed ‘Deltacron’ by Leondios Kostrikis, professor of organic sciences and head of Laboratory of Biotechnology and Molecular Virology at the University of Cyprus

In an interview with Sigma TV, Kostrikis said: “There are currently omicron and delta co-infections, and we found this strain that is a combination of these two. The discovery was named Deltacron due to the identification of omicron-like genetic signatures within the delta genomes.”

25 cases of Deltacron have been discovered so far, Bloomberg reported. Much about this strain or these cases stays unknown

Virologist Tom Peacock stated on social media that Deltacron may also no longer be an authentic variant, however per chance a end result of contamination. “So when new editions come thru sequencing lab, illness is not that special (very very tiny volumes of liquid can reason this) – simply commonly these fairly clearly contaminated sequences are no longer reported through main media outlets,” he explained.

It may be mentioned that Deltacron is not any authentic name. Before this, the phrase Delmicron grew to be famous to denote a mixture of Delta and Omicron. These are now not official names given by WHO. Neither are these formally recounted variants.
