Virat Kohli, the national team’s Test skipper, has decided to step down in a spectacular turn of events. He was the mastermind behind India’s success in the tournament. After dropping down the ICC rankings, Team India went on to become the best team in the world under his leadership.
Kohli went on to win 40 Test matches for Team India in 68 games. He will undoubtedly be remembered as the “greatest” Indian Test skipper. His captaincy had no effect on his battering performance, and he led his squad from the front.
It is now, however, time for the management to look for a new skipper. Because Kohli has laid the groundwork, the incoming Test captain will be in a better position because he will have access to all of the resources. Pant should be given the opportunity to lead the squad because he is young. Over time, he will rise through the ranks to become the team’s captain. It would be more natural to name him as the team’s captain.
Pant has racked up centuries in a variety of situations. He hit a stunning century against South Africa in the just finished Test series, while others failed. Pant, without a question, has the proper attitude to lead the squad, especially with Kohli and Rohit around him.
