Every year in the United States, ‘Black History Month’ is celebrated in February. It is celebrated to commemorate the sacrifices of thousands of African Americans. Their contribution to the culture, heritage and adversities of the nation is celebrated this month.
This month has been celebrated in the United States since the 1970s. This month was decided to celebrate the achievements of African Americans as the second week of this month coincides with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. These personalities played a significant towards the freedom of black communities of America and who protested against inequality ad discrimination.
Carter G, Farther of Black History, started encouraging to spread about the history of Black communities among people. In the 1960s, he celebrated the second week of February as Negro History Week, later known as Black History Month in the 1970s.
This year, the theme of Black History Month is ‘Black Health and Wellness.’ This theme is in accordance with the current COVID-19 pandemic which has severely affected millions of people globally. Several celebrities of the United States are celebrating this month.
President Joe Biden is observing this month, and in a recent tweet, he marks, “Our nation was founded on an idea: that all of us are created equal. As we celebrate National Black History Month, we recommit ourselves to reach for that founding promise and fight for the equity, opportunity, and dignity that every Black American is due in equal measure.”

Vice President Kamala Harris is also observing this month, and she mentions it in her tweet and says, “Today we begin the celebration of National Black History Month. February is an opportunity for us to share the stories of endurance, strength, and Black excellence. Let us celebrate our history in full and rededicate ourselves to freedom, justice, and opportunity for all.”

Former American President Barack Obama has also paid tribute to this day, and he tweets, “Jackie Robinson changed baseball, and paved the way for so many others who would follow. As we celebrate his birthday and the start of Black History Month, we honor Jackie’s courage and recognize his incredible legacy.” He mentioned and shared an image of Jackie Robinson, an American Baseball player. He was the first African American to play in the major League Baseball (MLB).

American show host and actress, Oprah Winfrey praises Maya Angelou, an African American poet and says, “Next time you receive change from a cashier, take a look at the palm of your hand: There’s a chance Maya Angelou will be staring back at you on a quarter. This marks the first time a Black woman has appeared on one. What a beautiful moment. Maya, look at what you did!”
She made this remark as an observation of the achievement of black women.
