Sourav Ganguly praises and wishes all the best to duo of Rohit and Dravid
Sourav Ganguly backed India’s new captain-coach team Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid to be successful in the next two years. Their biggest challenge will be the 2022 T20 World Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup.
Virat Kohli handed over the white-ball captaincy to Rohit Sharma, while Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri. India has not won an ICC trophy for over eight years now – the previous one being the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy – and so there is tremendous pressure on both teams.
“I wish them well.”. Both of them have had great careers so far, and I’m confident they will succeed in India. “I cannot predict what will happen, but I am confident in both to succeed.”
“I don’t expect and don’t want to put pressure on them by expecting too much. My only wish is that they succeed. Wishing them the best. The side is great and I hope they play well,” Ganguly told Sportstar.
In Sourav Ganguly’s view, leading BCCI is not more challenging than leading India
When comparing his tenure as BCCI president to that of India’s captain, Ganguly said that the former is not as challenging. Although the board matters are worked out behind the scenes, captaincy on the field is clearly visible.
It doesn’t seem more challenging to me. What will my legacy be? Right now, I don’t know. Let’s see what happens. I leave my legacy up to you to judge, it is what it is. Nonetheless, over the past two years, it has faced tough circumstances due to COVID-19.
“The pandemic has wreaked havoc across the globe, and we are fortunate to have played a majority of the matches,” Ganguly said.
