Last year, Elon Musk donated $5.7 billion in Tesla stock to charity
According to a regulatory filing Monday, Elon Musk contributed about $5.7 billion worth of Tesla Inc. shares to charity last year, making him one of the year’s top philanthropic givers by at least one measure.
Mr. Musk disclosed donating 5,044,000 Tesla shares over the period of more than a week in November, but the document did not name the recipients. Mr. Musk, Tesla’s CEO and the world’s richest man has yet to react to a request for comment.
Mr. Musk made the donations in the midst of a series of stock transactions, selling more than $16 billion worth of Tesla shares in the first two months of 2021. Last year, the Tesla CEO converted nearly 22.9 million exercised stock options into shares, despite the fact that he gets paid in stock awards and does not take a cash income from the electric vehicle firm.
