Hijab Row: Karnataka government to held a meeting for the implementation of HC orders

On Tuesday, February 15, the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district, M Kurma Rao said, “We have held a meeting with all religious leaders, various stakeholders on the implementation of the Karnataka High Court’s interim order.” He further added, “Educational institutions have the responsibility to implement High Court order. Efforts are on to convey the High Court order at all levels and seek their cooperation in its implementation. At the college level, Principals and committees have put in efforts.”

The Karnataka government has taken the responsibility for implementing High Court’s interim order on the Hijab Row. Meanwhile, a new committee will be constituted to bring new guidelines regarding uniforms or the prohibition of hijabs in educational institutions. The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai and the Education Minister, Nagesh will preside over a meeting with the senior officials of the education and home departments of the Karnataka government to make a decision on the dress codes.

It has been reported that after High Court’s proposal, the Karnataka government will make new guidelines for wearing hijabs in schools and colleges. Prohibitory orders have been issued in several districts of Karnataka to exempt any violence near schools or colleges. Meanwhile, all the educational institutions have been re-opened amid the chaos.
