Elana Meyers Taylor becomes the first Black Athlete to win the most medals in Winter Olympics history

Elene Meyers Taylor on Saturday won her fifth bronze medal in the Winter Olympics. She won the third position in the Women’s bobsled on February 19.

She made history as she became the first black athlete to win five medals among all the women bobsledder in the Olympics history. In the bobsled event, Laura Nolte grabbed the first position thereby, boasting a gold medal while Mariama Jamanka boasted a silver medal by ranking second in the Winter Olympics event. Laura Nolte finished the race within 4:03.96 while Laura Jamanka finished in 4:04.73. Meanwhile, American Elana Meyers finished 4:05.48.

Earlier, she was also selected as the U.S flagbearer at the event. However, due to Covid positive result, she was exempted. Although she recovered soon and took part in the bobsled event. Meyers was also selected as the flagbearer for the U.S. at the closing ceremony. Meyers said, “I was so honoured to be named the opening ceremony flagbearer, but after not being able to carry the flag, it’s even more humbling to lead the United States at the closing ceremony.” She added, “Congratulations to my fellow Team USA athletes on all their success in Beijing. I’m looking forward to carrying the flag with my teammates by my side and closing out these games.”
