Ukraine President Zelensky offers weapons to citizens to fight Russia
Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has stated that the government will provide weapons to all Ukrainian citizens who wish to defend their country against Russian aggression.
According to President Zelensky, “It is time for all Russians who have not yet lost their conscience to go out and protest the war with Ukraine. We will lift sanctions against all Ukrainian citizens who are prepared to defend our country with weapons as part of territorial defence.”
Zelensky also urged Russians to protest Moscow’s decision to send troops into Ukraine. Zelensky went on to compare the Russian attack to that of Nazi Germany in a tweet. Russia, like Nazi Germany in World War II, launched a treacherous morning attack on our country. Our countries are currently on opposing sides of world history. Russia has chosen the path of evil, but Ukraine is defending itself and will not give up its independence, regardless of what Moscow thinks, Zelensky wrote.
Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, has declared war on Ukraine. In a televised speech prior to the invasion, Putin urged Ukrainian soldiers to lay down their arms and return home. He stated that clashes between Russian and Ukrainian forces are “inevitable,” and that the special military action is “aimed at demilitarising and degasifying Ukraine.” Russia has taken control of two villages in Ukraine’s east.
