How Russia Supported India in its Darkest days!

Russia has always been a tried and tested friend of India. Whenever India needed help in the UNSC, Russia was there to help India in its darkest days with its VETO power.

We have gathered a list in which Russia helped India:

1. In December 1961, Russia stood with India as it liberated Goa and thrashed NATO member Portugal, causing many in the West to turn crimson.

2. Russia used VETO power on the Kashmir issue in 1955. Nikita Khrushchev, the Soviet Union’s leader, reportedly said on a visit to India in 1955, “We are so close that if you call us from the mountain peaks, we will arrive by your side.” This is the mentality that defined Soviet assistance for India on the Kashmir question, and it continues to determine Russian support for India in various fora, including bilateral forms.

3. Russia was the only country to use its veto power to block UN resolutions calling for intervention in Kashmir in the Year 1962.

4. Russia helped India in the war of 1971 against Pakistan. When the WEST was helping Pakistan, the only ally was Russia stood its ground with India.
