Will Israel Sanction Russia, as a U.S. close ally
Since Russia has attacked Ukraine, heavy sanctions have been imposed on Russia by the west. However, there are many countries that haven’t sanctioned Russia yet.
Israel is one of them who hasn’t sanctioned Russia yet. Even Israel has been running soft on Russia while being an allied partner of the US.
Israel has condemned Russia’s actions and given humanitarian supplies to Ukraine, but no legal penalties have been imposed. Individual Israeli enterprises, on the other hand, have ceased operations in Russia.
Israel has attempted to tread a fine diplomatic line in the conflict, taking a firm stance in support of Ukraine while keeping close ties with the US. At the same time, it has been careful not to adopt moves that might break off ties with Moscow, such as sanctions, in its condemnations.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has exploited Israel’s excellent ties with both Moscow and Ukraine to mediate between the two countries. On Saturday, he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, and he has conducted phone diplomacy with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
