Breaking News : The International Court of Justice in The Hague has ordered Russia to stop invading Ukraine immediately

Before the verdict, the Associated Press stated that it was unclear whether Russia would comply with the International Court of Justice’s injunction.

Last week, Russia missed a session in which Ukraine claimed Russia was “resorting to tactics reminiscent of mediaeval siege warfare.”

According to the Associated Press, Ukraine accused Russia of breaking the 1948 Genocide Convention when the Kremlin accused Ukraine of genocide and used that as justification for the invasion.

“The Russian Federation shall immediately halt the special military operations it began on February 24,” the ICJ ruled in the order.

If Russia does not comply with the ICJ’s order, the court may request intervention from the United Nations Security Council. Russia, on the other hand, has a veto on the Security Council.

According to Reuters, the presiding judge stated that the court is “profoundly” concerned about the invasion.

“The court is acutely aware of the magnitude of the human catastrophe unfolding in Ukraine. According to Reuters, presiding judge Joan Donoghue remarked, “The court is deeply worried about the Russian Federation’s use of force in Ukraine, which poses extremely significant concerns of international law.”

“Ukraine earned a total win in its case against Russia,” Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Twitter after the court’s decision.
