European car sales contract further in February

New car registrations in Europe fell further in February, after reaching a record low in January, as supply chain disruptions continued to wreak havoc on the region’s automotive sector, according to data from the region’s carmaker association released on Thursday.

According to ACEA data, the number of new vehicles registered in the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) fell 5.4 percent to 804,028 in February, marking the eighth consecutive month of declines.

Individual country registrations varied greatly, with declines of 22.6 percent and 13 percent in Italy and France, respectively, compared to growth of 6.6 percent and 3.2 percent in Spain and Germany.
