David Beckham has handed over control of his Instagram account to a Ukrainian doctor

David Beckham has handed over control of his Instagram account to a Ukrainian doctor who is documenting working conditions in Kharkiv, in the country’s north-east.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, who has 71.5 million Instagram followers, said he wants to draw attention to the “wonderful work” of medical personnel working in the aftermath of the Russian invasion.

“Today I’m going to show you how we work in times of war and who we have become during these war days,” she said.

Iryna, a child anaesthesiologist and the head of the regional prenatal centre, shared films and photographs to the athlete’s Instagram Stories throughout Sunday, demonstrating how the war had affected her team’s responsibilities.

Iryna posted videos of a basement where pregnant women and new moms were evacuated during the initial days of the invasion, an intensive care centre where babies are being treated, and Unicef-donated oxygen generators.

Iryna, who only gave her first name, stated that she now works “24/7” and that “we are undoubtedly risking our lives, but we don’t think about it at all.” “We enjoy what we do.”

She also mentioned Yana and her baby son Mykhailo, who was born with respiratory issues on the second day of the war and whose family house was destroyed during the fighting.

She stated that the child was “well now.”

Beckham, 46, has been a Unicef ambassador since 2005.

He urged his followers to donate to the charity, which works in Ukraine to provide clean water and food to families, maintain child protection services, and monitor refugee situations in neighbouring countries.

“The oxygen generators they’ve received are helping neonates live under horrible conditions thanks to your donations,” he said.

For the past three weeks, Russian attacks have targeted Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city.
