Jeff Bezos responds to Elon Musk’s tweet about turning Twitter’s headquarters into a homeless shelter
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos took time out of his Sunday afternoon to respond to Elon Musk’s tweet, in which he polled his Twitter followers about converting Twitter’s headquarters into a homeless shelter.
Great idea

Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla who revealed a 9.2 percent stake in Twitter last week, suggested that the company’s headquarters in San Francisco be converted into a shelter “since no one shows up anyway.” By Sunday afternoon, more than 90% of the 1.7 million votes cast in the poll posted Saturday evening had chosen “yes.”
Bezos, who stepped down as CEO of Amazon last year but remains chairman, retweeted Musk’s tweet and added, “or do a portion,” with a link to GeekWire’s coverage of a homeless shelter attached to one of Amazon’s downtown Seattle office buildings in 2020.
Amazon opened The Mary’s Place Family Center in The Regrade two years ago, and it quickly became a vital resource for those who were homeless during the pandemic. The shelter is the largest in Washington state, with a capacity to serve 200 people per night and over 1,000 family members per year. Amazon has agreed to provide ongoing support for the facility in the amount of $100 million.
Musk has repeatedly chastised Bezos on Twitter about space satellites, lunar landers, and other issues, with little response. So, Bezos’s response to Musk’s musings online on Sunday came as a bit of a surprise.
