Brooklyn Subway Mass Shooting : Anonymous bust a scammer impersonating Zack Tahhan by hacking his twitter account, Read More

ANONYMOUS appears to have hijacked a Twitter account posing as Zack Tahhan, the man who spotted the “shooter” on the Brooklyn train.

“This account has been hacked by (Anonymous) USA TEAM,” reads a tweet from the account on Friday.

In a follow-up article, it was stated: “We hacked this account at the request of various users since it was mimicking New York Hero Zack Tahhan’s name. Anonymous.”

Previous tweets from the account were written in the first person as if they were written by Tahhan himself.

According to reports, another tweet from the account said: “A team of social media specialists is in charge of this account (Twitter). Zack’s fans.”

The account appeared to be accepting donations for Tahhan, but it later tweeted that all of them had been refunded.

The majority of the prior tweets were deleted, but several remained, including ones in which “Zack” expressed gratitude to those who shared footage of his interviews.

“Thank you, everyone, for the wishes what I did was protecting my City [heart emoji] and being a nice citizen,” one tweet from the account reads (sic). “Congratulations to the NYPD and everyone involved in apprehending the bad man.”

Joyce Karam, a senior correspondent for The National, issued a warning to her followers about fake Tahhan accounts.

“Please be aware of FAKE accounts on @Twitter posing as Zack Tahhan, some requesting money,” it said.

“1- He isn’t on Twitter, and 2- he doesn’t hold fundraisers. 3- He’s solely on Facebook and Instagram. 4- He wants people to be aware of the situation, unfollow these accounts, and spread the message. Those accounts should be reported.”

The account in issue was founded in November of 2021, and as of Friday, it had around 22,000 followers.

The profile picture and header image were both altered to photographs of the Anonymous insignia, the Guy Fawkes mask.

Some people are dubious about Anonymous’ involvement in the breach.

“I’m quite confident this isn’t “anonymous,” but rather the original m*s who took Zack’s identity, now trying to get out of this because others found out,” one Twitter user said.

Anonymous is a global activist and hacktivist organisation and movement that is decentralised.

The gang is well-known for its cyberattacks against governments and businesses.

Who is Zack Tahhan, and where did he come from?

Tahhan, 21, is being hailed as a hero after spotting Frank R James wandering through Manhattan’s East Village on Wednesday afternoon and reporting him to the cops, who apprehended James shortly before 2 p.m.

“We nabbed him!” exclaimed the tipster, who was swarmed by media outlets and praised by fellow New Yorkers.

Tahhan noticed James on security cameras and immediately called the cops to report his location.

Tahhan is a Syrian security camera technician who has lived in the United States for five years and speaks five languages, according to The Guardian.
