The negotiations for Chelsea’s purchase included Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams

Sir Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula One world champion, and Serena Williams are expected to join a consortium led by Sir Martin Broughton in bidding for English football club Chelsea. Since the story initially broke, there has been a debate about whether Lewis’ interest is genuine or not. The 37-year-old, however, told Skynews that he is interested in becoming a Chelsea owner.

Hamilton was not bashful about his interest in becoming the owner of one of the world’s most prestigious football clubs. He stated that he is a football aficionado who has played the sport since he was a child.

Lewis said: “I’ve been a football fan since I was a kid. I played football from the age of four until I was 17. I was in teams every year, I played in the school team every year through my childhood.”

“I have been to numerous games. When I was young, around the corner from where I lived is where I used to play football with all the kids and a couple of my close friends at the time.”

He also added: “Ultimately, I am a sporting fan. It is the biggest sport in the world and Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world and most successful. When I heard about this opportunity I was like ‘wow, this is one of the greatest opportunities to be a part of something so great’.”

Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams reportedly made it to the list of backers for Sir Martin Broughton, who is spearheading the club’s purchase. World Athletics President Sebastian Coe and rich investors from around the world are part of Broughton’s consortium. The group’s goal is to keep Chelsea’s top position while also attempting to increase it.
