After a moment of cruel brilliance to stop Dillian Whyte and retain his WBC heavyweight title, Tyson Fury says he can retire from boxing after earning every belt there is to win. After defending his WBC heavyweight title and maintaining his perfect record with a dramatic sixth-round knockout of Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium, Tyson Fury has indicated that he will retire. With one second remaining in the sixth round, referee Mark Lyson waved the fight off after Fury outboxed challenger Whyte and flattened him. Afterward, the champion paid Whyte respect, stating he believes the Brixton boxer will one day be a world champion.

Tyson Fury’s performance at Wembley, however, “emphatically keeps him as the man to beat,” according to Lewis, who tweeted that “his performance emphatically keeps him as the man to beat.” After the Cameroonian MMA fighter went into the ring during the festivities, Fury muddied the waters by declaring he had UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in his sights.

The 33-year-old then addressed his adoring fans that he was adhering to his intention to retire from boxing, passing up the chance to become the first heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis. After his third bout with Deontay Wilder in October, Fury said he promised his wife, Paris, that he would retire, but that he obliged his supporters to fight one more time on home soil.
