Elon Musk explains why Donald Trump’s Twitter bans are “morally wrong and stupid”

Elon Musk, the successful entrepreneur, has finally chimed in on the Donald Trump ban debate, irking many people by announcing that he will lift the former US President’s permanent Twitter ban.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk remarked at a Financial Times meet that he does not yet control Twitter and that “this is not like a thing that will definitely happen.”

Following that, Musk responded on a video on Twitter, stating that it was “important to listen” to his “whole explanation.”

The 50-year-old claims in the video that he and Twitter founder Jack Dorsey agree that everlasting bans ought to be pretty uncommon and reserved for hackers or bots.

Musk claimed that barring Donald Trump from Twitter was unjustified, and that he now has a voice thanks to Truth Social.

“It alienated a large part of the country, and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice,” Musk said.

When questioned about Trump’s provoking tweets that led to a massive number of right-wingers attacking the US Capitol claiming election fraud on January 6, 2021, Musk responded that a temporary ban and suspension of tweets should have sufficed.

If they say something that is illegal or otherwise just destructive to the world, then there should be a perhaps a timeout, a temporary suspension, or that particular tweet should be made invisible or have very limited attraction,” Musk stated again that Dorsey shares his viewpoint.

“I think it was a morally bad decision and foolish in the extreme.”

When asked if he would return to Twitter if Trump repeated his actions, Musk indicated he would not.

“I think he has stated that he won’t be back on Twitter and would be on Truth Social. And this is the point that I am trying to make that is probably not getting across. Banning Trump on Twitter will not end Trump’s voice. It will amplify it among right-wingers and this is why it is morally wrong and flat out stupid.”

Musk then commented to Dogecoin founder Shibetoshi Nakamoto’s tweet, saying: “If Donald Trump gets back on Twitter this is all that will happen 1) he won’t use it or 2) he will make a single tweet that is like “this site is bad come to Truth Social” or whatever it’s called it doesn’t matter, adults don’t need to have yet another meltdown.”

Permanent banning, Musk has said, erode faith in Twitter as a digital town square where everybody can be heard.
