Who was Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale?

Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was the 14th leader / jathedar of the prime orthodox Sikh religious institution Damdami Taksal.

Bhindranwale was also a renowned advocate from the Anandpur Sahib Resolution.

He gained huge attention after his involvement in the 1978 Sikh-Nirankari clash.

Additionally, he started the ‘Dharam Yudh Morcha’ (righteous campaign) for fulfilling their aim to create a largely autonomous state within India.

Later, thousands of people joined in this campaign with the hope of getting more irrigation water and the return of Chandigarh to Punjab.

He was the Sikh preacher ‘sant’ in Amritsar, Punjab, besides carrying social works.

However, Jarnail Singh Brar (Bhindranwale) was killed during a gunfight when he was 37 years old in the operation Blue Star in 1984.
