Bank of the West warns customers about PINs being stolen by skimmers in several banks

The Bank of the West warns all their customers about their card credentials being stolen via skimmers installed on several of the bank’s ATMs.

The Bank of West is a subsidiary of the French International Banking Group BNP Paribas.

Additionally, it has 600 branches and offices located in the Midwest and Western United States. The headquarters is located in San Francisco, California which was founded in 1874.

However, the bank found unrecognised withdrawals in November 2021 firstly which lead to in depth investigation for the reason of the suspicious withdrawals.

After the investigation was completed, the bank revealed that someone had installed skimmers which provide card credentials of the users.

‘This stolen information may have been used to create fake debit cards and attempt cash withdrawals’, the bank explains. Later, the bank advises that the victims shall block their debut cards for now and will later collect a new card with another unique PIN.

What is Skimmer?

A skimmer is a tool which helps to collect the spilled oil from the water surface. It is majorly used on shores to extract oil from the water and separate these two.

Similarly, the threat actors upload website skimmer which leads to ATM users PIN. And later the threat actors can use it getting cash withdrawal or can use it in some illegal work.

So if anyone recognises any unrecognised withdrawals or any changes in the bank account, be alert and straight away report to the bank and block the card.
