Top innings of Rohit Sharma in Test cricket

The Hitman, Rohit Sharma has been ruling the modern day cricket for the past 15 years now, he is one of the most influential and elite batters in white ball cricket. He made his Test debut in 2013 after the farewell of Sachin -Tendulkar, but has been out of the Test team since the 2017-18 season. However, ever since his comeback, he has been on a roll with the red ball. Moreover, he was the second highest run getter in 2021 in Tests, he scored 906 runs in 11 matches at an average 0f 47.68.

177 (301) vs West Indies, 2013

The test debut, the current Indian captain had  an outstanding Test debut. After Windies scored 234 runs in the first innings, India posted a formidable total of 453 runs in the second innings, courtesy Rohit Sharma. Crucial partnerships with MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin, helped Rohit go past the 150 run mark. The innings had 23 fours and 1 six. This knock is the second highest test score by an Indian on test debut, the first one is of Shikhar Dhawan (187).

176 (244) vs South Africa, 2019

In his comeback innings, the MI captain made a sensational 176 run score at the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium. The opening partnership of him and Mayank Agarwal was of 317 runs, which helped the Men in Blue to post 502 runs in the first innings. India won the game against Proteas by 203 runs and took a 1 – 0 lead in the series.

127 (256) vs England, 2021

The 2021 tour of England, which consisted of a five match test series. Often said by experts that Rohit will have to come across the swinging conditions against the English bowlers, the Hitman was ready for a real showdown. Smashing 127 runs in 256 balls in the 4th Test, he showed great patience and composed attitude against the likes of Chris Woakes, James Anderson and Robinson. India beat England by 157 runs and took a 2 – 1 lead in the series.

212 (255) vs South Africa, 2019

In his comeback Test year in 2019, Rohit was sure to seal his spot in the longest format of the game. The opener was adjudged the highest run getter in that series, he scored 529 runs at an average of 132.25. However, in the third Test, he made his highest individual score in the whites, the knock was made up of 28 fours and 6 sixes. India comfortably won the game by an innings and 202 runs.

161 (231) vs England, 2021

The Englishman toured India in early 2021 and won the first Test by 227 runs, India were all set for a turnover in the second Test at Bengaluru. The top three failed miserably with Gill (0), Pujara (21) and Kohli (0). Although, Rohit didn’t let the early setbacks bother him. With the mixture of caution and aggression, he played one of the finest innings in Test cricket. The Men in Blue put up 329 runs in the first innings and choked the visitors in quick succession to win the match by 317 runs.
