Google upgrades its Password Manager to strengthen password security
Google declared on June 30, that they have added improvements to the password manager service with the aim of creating a more consistent look and feel across different platforms. Google Chrome’s product manager Ali Saraf talked about the changes which are “a simplified and unified management experience that’s the same in Chrome and Android settings.”
According to Google the improvements to the password manager service will automatically let the user group multiple passwords for the same sites. The update will also keep an option to manually add passwords. The password manager will also come with an effective way to generate unique passwords. However, the company is not yet confirmed the idea of developing a Password Manager app but will certainly look forward to it in the future.
According to Ali Sarraf’s blog post, he said, “If you have multiple passwords for the same sites or apps, we will automatically group them. And for your convenience, you can create a shortcut on your Android home screen to access your passwords with a single tap.” He also mentioned that Google is working to expand its capacity to generate passwords for iOS apps when Chrome is set as an autofill provider.
The company claimed that with this update users can now create strong passwords on their devices working with any Operating System. Chrome will also check the passwords vulnerability and re-usability on Androids. The tech giant will also flag credentials that are weak and effectively fix them with its automated password change features.
Google has also announced that it will introduce a new “Touch-to-Login” feature to Chrome which will allow users to sign in to the website with just a single tap on Android. Google claims that it will tighten the security gap on all Android devices with the upgrade.
