What if the sun stops shinning?
Isn’t it some intriguing thought we all had once in a while, what if our sun fades away from existence!! What will Earth become then!
We will all be worried if the sun stops existing completely for us for the first eight minutes you won’t notice any difference because light takes eight minutes to reach Earth from the sun. The Earthlings will be able to see the sun in the sky for about eight minutes even after it has stopped existing.
Even the gravitational shift will not occur for eight minutes straight even though the sun is no longer there. However, the sun is 333,000 times the mass of Earth, but the gravitational shift will not apply. According to Einstein’s theory of relativity, gravity travels at the same speed as light. So, we are all good but for only eight minutes.
Slowly after an hour or so, there would be no sunlight but our planet will reflect light back at us. There would be a very peaceful and serene glow in the sky with no sunlight. The stars would appear brighter embedded within deep dark space.
You will start having the effect of no sunlight after a day or two when plants would stop photosynthesizing and dry out. Some plants that don’t need light will survive and thrive for another decade. Our Earth would become inhospitable to us and other animals. We would be deprived of food, drinking water, and slowly electricity. The Earth would become a dark, inhabitable, cold place with a sky full of bright stars.
The temperature would drop to the point of freezing. Lakes, ponds, and small water bodies will freeze completely although the ocean will still require some years to freeze. The atmosphere would collapse and radiation would enter our Earth through the ozone layers. The Earth will slowly become an inhospitable wasteland with the never-ending and barren ice age.
