Yaya Toure set to take up full time coaching role at Tottenham’s academy

The former Manchester City midfielder and Ivory Coast national Yaya Toure has been given a full-time role in Tottenham’s academy. The three time Premier League winner has spent time with the club since December in an unofficial manner while he worked towards his UEFA A License.

However, the 39-year-old has not played professionally since his time with the Chinese club Qingdao Huanghai in 2019 but did train with the League Two club Leyton Orient briefly before the 2020-21 campaign.

Toure has been helping out the U18 boys at Tottenham’s academy. Moreover, Englishman Jermaine Defoe could also be joining the Ivory Coast international’s company, Defoe is set to continue his coaching development at his former club.

The 39 year old forward striker had a short stint with the Rangers coaching staff after Steven Gerrard left the club last year and retired in March during his second spell at Sunderland.

Spurs have helped both their former players undertake their coaching badges and they are set to be handed charge of their own age-group teams as part of a rejigged academy staff.
