Why Netizens trend “RussiaIsaTerroristState” on Twitter

Netizens are trending “RussiaIsaTerroristState” on Twitter after Ukrainian prisoners of war were bombed in jail in Russian-occupied Donetsk, leading to the death of at least 50 PoWs.

The families of Ukrainian prisoners of war who were bombed said that they are desperate for news.

According to the early statements of Russia’s ministry of defence, the prisoners included members of the Azov battalion who were trapped in the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol. The prison is situated in the town of Olenivka which is 10 kilometers from Ukraine’s frontlines.

Russia has released lists of 75 wounded and 50 dead, however, they have not been confirmed by the Ukrainian authorities or the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who were monitoring conditions at the prison.

Journalist Emmanuelle Chaze also takes on Twitter to reflect upon the event which happened on Thursday night.

She tweeted,” 🇺🇦 Ukrainians rally today against the horrors committed by Russia against #POWs. Yesterday, dozens of Azov fighters were murdered after their prison was blown up. A verified video also circulates of a Russian soldier castrating a POW. Yet, worldwide interest for 🇺🇦 seems to fade.”
